Text Box:    Even though summer is winding down, the temperatures have been brutally high. The members of Summit Township found a way to beat the heat, and gain valuable training and experience at the same time, by combining a fun afternoon at the pool with a training drill.
The water rescue drill was originally scheduled to be held at the beach in Conneaut Lake Park, but due to high levels of bacteria in the water the location had to be changed. The owners of the Fairway 12 Motel graciously donated the use of their pool for the drill.
Topics that were discussed and practiced included tying knots, how to deal with swift water, patient rescue and immobilization, and how to use the cold water rescue drill.
Drill coordinator and Summit Ambulance Chief Gene Calvert said of the drill, “ I like to have at least one of these drills every summer. They’re fun, and, since we live in a lake resort area, they’re practical.”

Fire Hall to be Renovated

The general membership of the Summit VFD has voted to update three construction projects at the Summit fire station on August 2nd during their regular  business meeting. The winning bids will be chosen on September 17, 2007 at 6 pm.

Pancake Breakfast Proves to be a Success

A pancake breakfast was held at the Summit VFD on Sunday, August 26. The breakfast, which was held from 6 am to noon, proved to be a success for the department as a fundraiser raising $257 in profits. The success of the venture is due largely to the planning and management skill of department member and firefighter Jennifer Pinkhouse. Jen planned the breakfast, purchased the food, prepared and cleaned the hall, and led the team at 4:30 am the day of the event in cooking the numerous pancakes, eggs, and sausage that was to be served. A special thanks is due to all of the volunteers who helped to make this possible: Aleata Beaudoin, Gene Calvert, Rick Daniels, Ryan Durovey, Sarah Fedenets, Robin Franz, Tonya Frith, Jerrod Gillette, Dick Hibbard, Gig King, Danny O’Meara, Jen Pinkhouse, Mike Root, and Jen Wohlfarth. We would also like to thank the individuals who came to eat and support our fire department in this way

You Might Be Spending Too Much Time At the Fire Dept If...

· You answer your home phone by saying “Fire Hall”.

· The words “structure fire” and “motor vehicle accident” wake you up faster than your alarm clock.

· When you respond to your station in the middle of the night and find it all quiet and no one around, only to realize that the tones you heard were in your dream.

Text Box:    A joint venture between the Laidlaw Bus Company and Summit VFD had the volunteers at Summit and the busdrivers out in the rain on Monday, August 20, 2007. Department members were asked by Laidlaw to come and give a brief tutorial on school bus accidents. John McGlynn and Robin Franz talked about what the fire service would do, explaining what the fire service would do in  the event of an accident and what the bus drivers should do. Triage was also briefly explained. After the classroom work, a large number of drivers volunteered to act as patients in a  mock  accident. They watched and participated as EMS and fire crews from Summit and Linesville VFD’s went through the bus triaging and then removing the patients from the bus.
